Rev's Rabbits

Chocolates, Tricolors, Steels and other rare Holland Lop Colors

My Color Projects:

My main focus is producing Holland Lops with unique color and competitive type.   Specifically, I am focusing on steel and tricolors.  Steel and tricolor are rare to begin with, but I would like to produce varieties of them that are even more rare including:

-Silver tipped steel in black, blue, chocolate, and lilac

-Gold tipped steel in chocolate and lilac

-Maybe even Sable steel (just for fun)

-Tricolor/harlies in chocolate and lilac

It has been almost 2 years but I am getting closer to producing these colors!  Here are some of the rabbits that will help me get there...

Rev's Harmony- A chocolate AND dilute carrier harlequin!  She may look like a normal harlie herself but she has the potential to produce me some nice chocolate and lilac tricolors.  So far I have only gotten a chocolate orange out of her and a lot of black torts but hopefully breeding her to my lynx will produce more chocolate varieties.

Danny's Lynox- A broken LYNX buck!  This is such a beautiful color...I love it!  He is a true lynx, a lilac agouti....not a cream, a blue tort otter, or any other variety.  Please read this article for more information on what a true lynx looks like http://www.amysrabbitranch.com/Color&Genetics/ColorConfusions-LynxCream.pdf.  Lynox is the perfect genotype for my color projects.  He has the non-extension gene and broken genes so I can get chocolate and lilac tricolors out of him.  He also has the agouti and full extension genes so he will help with my steel project.  But my favorite thing about him is the fact that he's a lilac agouti so every baby he has will 100% carry the chocolate AND dilute genes!!

Rev's Bert- black CHOCOLATE CARRIER self STEEL buck!!  You can just barely see it in this picture but Bert has just a line of gold on one of his shoulders.  Not only does he have the steel gene but he definitely carries chocolate.  I have yet to breed him because I don't have any does right now that would bring out his chocolate or steel genes.  My hope is to use one of Lynox's agouti daughters to produce chocolate steels with bert.  I expect some litters out of Lynox in the next few weeks so maybe in the next year I will see some chocolate steels in the nextbox!!

Rev's Chesna- Chestnut SABLE CARRIER doe!!  Chestnut may not seem that exciting but it is the perfect thing to breed to a steel.  She provides the agouti gene and I'm almost positive she is homozygous for the full extension gene.  This means she won't contribute the nonextension gene to any of her babies, a gene that makes a baby appear black when it would otherwise be a steel.  The sable gene is important because she will be able to produce silver tipped steels when bred to the buck listed below!!

Creator's Sterling- A black SILVER TIPPED STEEL buck!  I can't wait to get this guy from all the way from Canada.  I figure he will save me at least two years worth of breeding and he will be the only rabbit I have with the chinchilla gene.  I feel so lucky to be able to add him to my herd.
